Renton High School
Revitalizing Their Marching Band Program

The Renton High School RedHawk Marching Band program saw incredible growth and revitalization over the past three years! This year, the RHS RedHawk band performed a field show at RHS Homecoming football game for the first time! The marching band students gave feedback, and the #1 priority for students is that they want to LOOK LIKE A MARCHING BAND! Currently students pay out-of-pocket for makeshift t-shirt "uniforms."

This year, RHS Band is up to 70 students and is a proud representation of the school’s motto: Pride, Tradition, and Excellence.

Unfortunately, RHS has a total of 30 marching band jackets - all with the mascot that was retired in 2021. (Read details about the development of the new RedHawk Mascot). This leaves a a huge noticeable and problematic gap in school representation!

RHS Students Weigh-in on Uniform Design

When exploring options for the RedHawk Marching Band uniform's design, they asked current Renton High band students about their vision for the uniform. The students researched design options, talked about school culture and representation, and voted on the current sample design for the new RedHawk marching uniforms.

Price of New Uniforms

RHS has secured a quote from reputable school band uniform manufacturer, Demoulin Bros & Co., for 100 new marching band uniforms at a total cost of $66,120.44. This includes new jackets, hats, and bibbers (pants). This will also include hangers for jackets and pants, and hat storage boxes.
These uniforms will proudly feature the current Redhawk logo and offer the quality and sizing flexibility needed for years of continued use.

To date, the RedHawk Marching Band has received pledged donations to cover about one-third of the cost - a significant portion of the required funds - but are still falling short of their goal.

Benefits to the RHS Students and the Community

  • School Spirit and Representation: The RedHawk Band plays a central role in school spirit and community events. Updated uniforms will enhance the program’s ability to represent RHS with pride at games, school assemblies, and state send-off celebrations.

  • Equity and Accessibility: Students currently pay out-of-pocket for makeshift t-shirt uniforms. Providing Renton High School with a stable, consistent inventory of reusable uniforms will remove that financial burden from families and ensure all students have equal access to proper performance attire for athletic band events such as football & basketball performances, and marching band activities.

"We deeply appreciate your support of the revitalization of the arts at Renton High School. With your help, we can continue building a program that not only enriches the lives of our students but also inspires Pride, Tradition, and Excellence throughout the broader Renton community."

Renton High School Mascot - RedHawk

In 2021, a committee made up of students, staff, and alumni took part in the selection process for Renton High School's current RedHawk mascot.

The school’s former mascot was named in honor of Henry Moses, who attended Renton High until 1920. Moses was the last chief of the Duwamish Tribe and a direct descendent of Chief Sealth.
